Articles about Entertaiment
Anything that holds the interest and attention of an audience or gives pleasure and delight is regarded as entertainment. It is a form of activity that has evolved over thousands of years to meet our societal needs. Many of these activities stimulate the brain to realease seratonin, dopamine and other chemicals. This helps to keep the mind shaped as it was evolutionarily adapted to understand the world around us. Entertainment also often hits on themes that the human brain was adapted to deeply react to. This can include murders, backstabbing and other aspects of social interaction.
From Middle English entretenement (“support, maintenance”). See entertain.
